Since SPL leaders Celtic Glasgow are already 14 points clear at the top of the table, Aberdeen host Rangers hoping to stay alive in their battle for the Scottish Premier League's second UEFA Champions League spot.
Aberdeen are second on the Premiership table on 34 points, while Rangers are just two points behing in third. That makes Saturday's match at Pittodrie a critical game for Jimmy Calderwood's Aberdeen club.
Aberdeen need an 87th minute goal to win 1-0 at Hearts last weekend. Rangers come into this football match after salvaging a 1-1 home draw against Celtic, who have missed just nine points in 19 games.
The bookmakers make Aberdeen are 2.62 bet odds for a win, and Rangers are quoted as small favourites at 2.36, with a draw priced at 3.20 odds.
Calderwood got a improvement in experience after acquiring 40-year-old striker Craig Brewster from Dundee United.
"Craig looked great in training. He is the ultimate professional and will bring many qualities to Aberdeen," Calderwood asserted.
"All the younger players will benefit from having him around as he's great at communicating and coaching."
Brewster, however, who was a player-coach in recent seasons, won't be ready for the Rangers match since he is preparing to make his Dons' debut on January 2nd.

Among the most important Aberdeen and Rangers fixtures in Scottish football history was on May 11, 1991, with the Premier League title on the line. Aberdeen required only a draw to secure the title but lost as Mark Hateley netted twice for Rangers.
Rangers, on the other hand, are improving, manager Paul le Guen insists.
"I see a more positive reaction from the players, and our last few performances have been much better," he declared. "I always remained confident things would turn for us. I never doubted myself or my team."
Le Guen's club have endured a poor start to the Scottish Premiership and were embarrassingly knocked out of the CIS Insurance Cup in a home game against St. Johnstone.
Nonetheless, the Light Blues were able to progress to the final 32 of the UEFA Cup. Le Guen insisted to the team's fans that they will improve in the second half of the SPL season.
"My aims for the future are to meet the expectation levels of the fans. They deserve it, and if we can do that, it will be great."
Elsewhere in Scotland's Premier League, leaders Celtic are 1.15 wagering favourites at Celtic Park against seventh placed Falkirk as they continue steamrolling towards the league title. Betting on Celtic to win the league is a pointless exercise: the bookies have them listed at 1.01 odds!
